I have deans but I think they might be fakes because the real deans are very expensive and on ebay the fakes/clones sell for dirt cheap in packs of 10's and 50's. I think I got 10 pairs for $15 total shipping included.
Anyhow the fakes or clones might not be gold plated (mine are though) but the problem (with the fakes) is that the plastic or abs material they used will melt if you do not solder quickly which causes the deans leads to move and not couple correctly (too hard to push together or too loose) when you plug them in to the connector!
I used a adjustable temp iron and they solder fine without melting. so use a low temp iron when soldering fakes and the plastic won't melt.
