Very interesting. Here's what I noticed with mine. The spacing between the piston head and piston is not enough, so the sector gear will try to engage the piston while it is too far forward. This has resulted in my gun chewing through the first tooth of both the stock and a poly piston. I've heard that proper spacing with washers can fix this problem. My cylinder head looked just like that - it didn't fire right out of the box.
