Pros to a good charger are that they have peak detection and shut off when your battery is full, as opposed to wall chargers which are generally on a timer and can damage your battery. Dischargers are only needed for NiCAD's, which i see you have, but only once in a while if it's a new NiCAD. They've apparently gotten better surrounding memory issues recently.
