Hell yeah, the non blow back version SOCOM is deadly quiet with a silencer, but any GBB sounds the same with or with out a silencer.
As for AEGs, it all depends on the particulars. For example, I have recently done a lot of upgrade work on a couple of M14s and found that the version & mech box is amazingly quiet when it cycles, so a silencer wouldn't make an iota of difference. But I have also done a lot of work on dozens of armorlites and have found that if the cylinder volume is greater than the inner barrel volume, that a silencer helps deaden the "pop" sound that results from "blow by". But it's really not going to cover any of the gear or motor whine....the best you can do to eliminate these sounds is to install low impact, high quality parts, and properly shim you mech box.
Aswell, a silencer on a BA makes less difference the more you up the power of your spring (90% of the sound is the impact of the piston head against the cylinder head and the spring ratteling along the spring guide), and what is the use when a stock BA is already so quiet that you can bearly hear one going off from more than 50 feet away.
