Sounds like a case of a cheap battery and the need to cycle it several times *as stated before*, I haven't found any info on your charger either... hmm.

There's actually not that much you need to learn about batteries, but yes; more Volts equates to higher ROF... but Mah contributes too; I replaced my 1800Mah Nicad with a 3600Mah NiMH and it was incredibly fast.
