Not sure how big the D80 is exactly, or the lens... but I can fit both my Canon 300D with the 28-135mm IS lens (with the hood attached/reversed) AND the 30D with my 30mm walkaround lens.
That's only the main compartment and I don't have to "max out" the storm collar or anything.
And yes, it's a horrible carrying practice.
