You should have seen a Glock disassembly video I did a few years ago. I had a lot of problems getting good exposure conditions inside the dark black interior of the gun without making my hands from going nuclear. No amount of lighting tricks or post processing could make the dark surfaces inside a gun show up clearly without making my hands get really overexposed.
I decided I had to bring my hands down 3 or 4 f-stops so I treated them with several applications of the darkest spray on tan available at Shoppers. They looked like they were the leathery hands of a Floridian tobacco, throat smoking, retiree but they made the gun parts look great on camera and juicing the lighting up made them show up a reasonable colour.
