Absolutely head and shoulders over BDUs.
Yes, they have knee pads, but that's only one of the wesome feature that they've got (although the first time you kneel on a BB, they pretty much pay for themselves).
- Tunnel waistband moves with you, rather than the adjustment tabs under your kidneys that never stay where you set them anyways...
- Velcro closures on pockets where the BDU has button closures. Easy access! I HATE button closures, especially on cargo pockets. 65/35 Poly-cotton ripstop with a Teflon finish on them to keep stains off, and if they do snag, they're not going to blow out catastrophically. Cargo pockets are internally divided, can take BBS pouches, and the inboard pockets are the perfect size for AR mags. Either way, it's nice to have pockets that are organized, rather than have everything rattling around while you run.
I've got two full sets of TDUs, and I can honestly say I prefer them over any brand of BDU-style combats I've worn (Propper, Tru-Spec, Crye field pants and jacket replicas).
