I just checked guns.ru SKS did enter service in 49, not in 46 like I was thinking and it was used by certain parts of soviet army all the way up until 80s. I remember seeing guards carrying SKS and Mosin carbines at my mother's work during late 80's. By guards I mean old ladies guarding office buildings and factories

Lythinca, according to guns.ru small runs of SKS saw action starting in late 1944. That's something new to me. Gotta love guns.ru
