I have one of Huang's ACOGs, its not bad but as you already know the eye relief isn't great.
If you care about realism, the red dot usually issued with the M14 EBR is the M68 CCO (Aimpoint CompM4). Otherwise a variable power scope is usually seen mounted: the Schmidt & Bender M8541 (AKA USMC Scout Sniper Day Scope) or similar is often seen. It's a 3x12 power scope. The 3-5x range is handy for airsoft.
Never really seen an ACOG on an EBR, and it just seems like a poor choice (and the real one was designed for use with 5.56x45). If all you wanted was the ability to mount the Docter Sight on top of it, they have rings with a secondary rail you use.
You could also throw on an EOTech clone, but personally (if you're going to use the clone rather than a real holosight) I prefer the Aimpoints.
