Throat mic?
Hi,
I want to know if a throat mic is useful or useless. What is the advantage of the throat mic vs the headphone? Also do buy a good model? Which one? Thank you ledor473

Mostly useless, unless you can try before you buy. Pickup quality is rarely as good as boom mic. I have a Peltor throat mic, and even though it works decently for me it never worked well at all for a team mate.

The best throat mic i have ever used is a IASUS concepts NT3. Works super well in any condition for me. I tried before the Styker by clearer communications and it did not work well for me. I know people that swear by the clearer communications Mission throat mic but it is expensive at $260 USD
Here is the link to IASUS http://www.iasus-concepts.com/nt/nt-3.htm And here is an authorised dealer in Canada https://www.evotactical.com/ Last edited by H1TMAN; February 15th, 2009 at 14:23.. |

Unless you go for real steel it's crap.
Moves around your neck and people can't hear you clearly. Now a real steel is not under 250$ so think about it. http://www.clearercom.com/airsoft.php Do not buy cheap china replicas. You will not be happy whit it.

Agreed. Unless you are buying high end don't bother. I've ran the gamut of cheaper ones and have never found one that works.

+1 on the iasus NT3, but you need the right voice for it and if you have too much neck muscle/fat it won't work properly.
But it completely eliminates background noise and you can actually whisper on the radio (good for snipers!) |

I know people who have owned the high end ones and they are just as bad as the cheapies. It all comes down to your throat. Mine was only audible if I shaved the morning of a game and even then by half way through it was in audible.

I got 2 troat mics. One cheap ass paintball one (1 sensor) and a Iasus NT sniper 2. (2 sensors) .
The NT Sniper 2 work well if you hold it with your hand on the correct position on your troat. But it completely defeat the purpose of a troat mic. I'd say, avoid them completely if wearing a gas mask is not required. Throat mics are basically designed for gas mask or high noises environement. A simple boom mic or shoulder mic work 100000x better in airsoft.
