cheek rest foam/rubber pads?
Hi folks. I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations on adhesive foam/rubber sheets for use as a cheek rest (on a Star VLTOR butt-stock in this case). I don't imagine standard foam would hold up to well to the constant friction and sweat.
Thanks. |

You could try the getto way and put a chunk of closecell foam and tape it on with some 100mph tape.

Its frankly as a result of the rather shiny, oily looking black plastic on the buttstock that I'm looking to cover it up. I figure to give it liberal coverage from the top around the bottom of the battery tubes, then use an exacto to cut it where the battery tubes come off. Probably check a hobby shop I suppose for some close cell now, thx Eddie. If there are any other suggestions, please feel free to add them. |

Look at mattress places it there is a FOAM near by you can get a roll of 1/2" closecell foam but that maybe to much.

How thick did you want the foam to be? What I did on my guns is go to PM Hobbies and get a sheet of Black Craft foam $1 for a 8.5" X 11" sheet about 1/16" thick. I put it on with 3M contact cement (don't get the Latex stuff). It has a fair amount of stretch so you can wrap corners and edges with it. The only down side is once you start putting it on there is no going back. I've done this with the cheeck rest on my Famas and G&P folding stock for my Super 90 as well as the hand grip on mac 11 and my sons AK47.

You could even look into that stuff they use for truck beds to go between the cap and the box... It comes in a bunch of widths and thicknesses and it's sticky on one side. Worth a look I would think...

Like I said I used it on my sons AK47 Handgrip and after several months no lose of texture or softness as well as no sign of the foam lifting or peeling. I can't blame you for wanting to get rid of the shiny black plastic. It would suck leaving cheek prints all over.
