Closed bolt or open
From the sounds of it, its a toss up to some people, some say its good and some say its bad. What do you think is better?

Brian put it best:
If you want it to look cool get an open bolt If you want it to be reliable get a closed bolt.

The fact that Brian owns ~10-16 of them, says something about his opinion.

So im guessing closed is the best to go for less stuff to happen. Also does this make the gun better on gas?

Right now there are only two guns that have both open and closed bolt version available, the SCAR and the PDW, it is unlikely that you will find someone who owns both an open and closed version of the same gun.

What platform is this for? SCAR, M4, PDW?
Guys have been blowing their SCAR hinge plates and frames from the open bolt system. The open bolt M4 bolt carrier, judging by their one picture, isn't made from steel as it is on the closed bolt. The hop-up is more consistent for the open bolt, but Falcon just released an alternate design, which claims improvements to consistency. ![]()

No open bolt system exists for the M4 yet. It was suppose to released in Febuary but that did not happen.

Simple answer, don't get a WE. I'm so frustrated with mine, seems if the weather is not perfect the friggin thing freezes and stops, then, if I get a conversion, it's supposedly going to cause damage.....wtf, should I just keep it as a wall hanger?

My experience is with the original WE PDW converted into the open-bolt system. Originally it was shooting a very (too) healthy 435-445 fps wich is too much for any fields I play at. I thought about putting the RA-Tech NPAS on it and that's where all the bad experiences with this system happen. It's no secret, there's threads on every airsoft forums about that. Switching to the open-bolt dropped the fps to a more acceptable 345-365 fps (same performance on the stock PDW open-bolt), wich indeed means the system is less efficient than the original but in this case, to my advantage + you get the improved hop-up and less stress on the receiver, wich is less of a factor for the M4 or PDW than the SCAR. If you still need a NPAS to be installed on the open-bolt, that version is much simpler and reliable. And you look cool. ![]() *EDIT: If it's the M4 you want tho, there's no open-bolt for it yet...

DualGlocks,
you are 16... you are not supposed to buy any airsoft guns at that age + I guess this is going to be your first airsoft gun? Do you plan on gaming it? because gbbr are picky guns , and mags are expensive... |
