TM AUG Gas Tube Piece?
Does anyone know what exactly the gas tube 'piece' on the TM AUG actually does? I've noticed that it has a tendency to twist and fall right off at the most inopportune moments. I don't really want to lose it out on the field, so I was thinking of just putting it aside. However, I'm wondering if there are any detrimental effects on the gun if I simply leave it off?
If you guys aren't sure what piece I'm talking about, I've circled it in the picture below: ![]() Any ideas? |

It doesn't do anything on airsoft.
On the real one, it's a gas tube. |

There seems to be some kind of slightly movable small metal piece on the barrel that the gas tube piece keeps pushed forward though. What's that for?

The gas tube and gas tube parts don't do anything. Looks only, like I said.

If you want to keep it on for looks, just glue it in with some silicone. That way you can remove it if you have to but it won't just fall out.

That sounds like a good idea. I still have some blue silicone 'glue' or sealer that I used to fix up leaks on some gas mags. Will that stuff work alright?

The only way to know for sure is to try it. It won't hurt it any. I have some permatex clear stuff that I use but that should work as well. I would sand the inside a bit where your going to glue so it adheres to the rough metal surface better. If you need to take it out later, a good tug should do the trick.

a proper silicone sealant shouldn't need anything to grab, and will stick better to a smooth surface.

Although it may SEAL better on a smooth surface, it will always STICK better to a rough surface, not to mention that if you glue/silicone to paint and not the actual material-you are doing just that-gluing to paint wich chips & flakes off.

Well, I decided to put that blue silicone stuff on to 'glue' the gas tube piece. I'll tell you guys how it is when it dries.
