if you get caught you get an administrative measures penalty (amp) which is $2000 or 20% of the value of the shipment whichever is greater + seizure of shipment + interest and storage costs and any extra freight costs pending an appeal decision which can take a long time. our retailer was nailed once last year and i prepared his appeal which has gone now to minister for decision. the items were seized 11 months ago with no immediate end in sight. and this is with the proper licensing. will an individual succeed (and may haven't. just read the C.I.T.T. appeals for airsoft guns) where a business has failed? it's a chance i wouldn't bother taking with my money, but you may with yours.

Then obviously, he didn't have all the papers.

Or it was just another retard customs officer. Maybe if we paid them a bit more then minimum wage...

oh yeah he had all the proper paper work, but once a seizure is enforced, it has to go to the minister for appeal, the agent just can't say "sorry, i goofed. let me just correct that for you." they are supposed to "render a decision with due haste" as the cbsa regulations require, but what does that mean. a week. a month. a year. this is a bit off-topic though.

as this thread is supposed to be about the utg mp5, let me just say that i got to play around with one a bit the other day. not a bad copy of a tm except for the plastic front sight and orange plastic barrel tip. the hop-up is plastic as well, but functioned over quite a wide range. it seems to me to be a good value considering you get the gun, battery, charger and 2 highcap mags. good for a beginner to start then move up to a better gun when you get some experience. besides, who'd want a bunch of new guys with "buck fever" using 400fps guns anyway? that's just asking for trouble.

Same here... not doing anything today.
Tomorrow's going to be a bitch, though, as all Mondays are.

Looks like after some comprehensive reviews, it's not such a good deal after all:

"Take a look at the hypothetical upgrades down below, all ignoring labor fees, and including the absolute bare number of parts needed to make the gun work reliably.

compare:

UTG MP5 - $99
Hurricane Upgrade Kit - $60
Systema PolyCarb Piston - $20
Tokyo Marui EG1000 Motor - $55
Classic Army MP5 Wiring - $29
Systema Genuine Flat Ratio Gears - $59

Total Price - $322

-----

Tokyo Marui MP5 - $269
Hurricane Upgrade Kit - $60

Total Price - $329

-----

For $7 less you get,
Systema PolyCarb Piston - $20
Systema Genuine Flat Ratio Gears - $59

$80 in aftermarket parts over the stock TM, you can't really compare it that way.

Don't forget, thats the Canadian price for the MP5 in canada. You can get it for much cheaper in the US. But, it's your responsibility to bring it over legally (if possible, depending on certian provinces and states).

When you do take into consideration the american price, it is a good deal.

Sure I can, because without those $80 in parts the UTG doesn't work worth shit. What good is saving $80 if the fucking gun doesn't work? You gonna take it to the field and point it at people and hope they run away or call themselves out?

These are, according to the article, REQUIRED parts to make it function reliably when you upgrade the spring. The stock piston will strip out with anything but the stock spring, and the axles on the UTG gears are too small for aftermarket metal bushings, and so must be replaced as well. Even if you switched to stock TM gears, you'd only save another $40. (Stock TM gear = $50, Systema = $90)

The article states that this gun should not be upgraded unless you want to spend a PILE of money, because the internals are uniformly garbage. It's good against springers, but can't compete with the TM in anything but CQB. Hell, when the retailer even tells you not to upgrade it because it's crap and bound to break down...that says a lot about quality to me.

It said the piston is OFTEN needed when you upgrade with a HURRICANE kit, which includes a 120m spring.

Regarding the motor, it is said it cannot turn over even a 100 well, but with stock it will work fine.

And the gears are needed when you upgrade to metal bushings because of the small difference inthe shaft and bushing size of a half millimeter.

Leave it stock! It will work fine stock for CQB. If you plan to leave it stock there is no reason to buy these parts, other than the wiring, that is a good idea.

Nope, that's not what it says:

Agreed. Since it can shoot as low as 230 fps out of the box in stock form, it's only ever going to be good for CQB. If you plan on playing outside, skip the UTG and get a TM or other real AEG, because this gun won't be able to run with an upgraded, or even stock AEG.

As an aside, I forgot to mention that the article also states that the UTG mags are garbage. 40% of them won't feed more than 10 bb's at a time. Yet another part that will need to be replaced before the gun can be considered skirmish-worthy .
