When I was younger, I hated wanna-be-M4 AKs.

Now I'm a bit older and I still do.

Still prefer mine, but getting a rail for the dust cover is an interesting idea.

IMO dust cover rail looks better in this guise...

http://texasweaponsystems.com/id1.html

I guess the CA one is less front heavy than mine....does seem to have a good copy of the Vltor stock setup...

I wonder if someone will make a shorter barrel for the GHK...

I used to be a hater of "tacticool AKs", but over time I've come to realize that it's all good - an AK is an AK.

Still, I will share this quote with you all from "9th Company" (look it up, fracking good movie about Russian recruits in Afstan);

"Beauty is the absence of the unnecessary" - the Avtomat Kalashnikov model of 1947 is IMHO a gorgeous work of perfection, because it is lean and absent any unneeded widgets, do-hickies or add-ons. A ingenious amalgamation of plywood and steel, simple and brutally effective in design and performance.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417397/

Adding on a bunch of aftermarket parts is often just people who don't truly appreciate an AK trying to turn it into an AR, or "putting lipstick on a pig". I personally don't care for the KREBS rifle posted here, but hey whatever floats your boat.

The real excitement is going to come once the AK-200 enters production as the new standard Russian service rifle. The first airsoft manufacturer to come out with a solid gas powered replica of that will make a killing; and should appeal to purists and tacticool junkies alike.

Pics of AK-200 below;

Not a fan of rails on a dust cover. Why? Because it moves, hang an optic on there and you've got a wandering zero.

On the AK-200 pics it looks like they have a cam or lever at the back to lock it down but still it looks a bit dodgy.

I'm hard pressed to use any of the rails that I do have on a M-platform...but I like the "tactical" AK, especially a slick build like the one pictured in TC's post...and the version in Kokanee's post.

(IMO) Any gun looks silly if rigged up with everything and the kitchen sink...but mod'ed to suit purpose? Yeah, that's a win.

Appears to be pinned front and rear.. so for a dust cover rail.. pretty much the best you can hope for.

If you were going to put an optic on a dust cover.. you would want a set up like this.

On another point.. the foorprint of that mag looks huge.. is it a high cap? a la the Surefire type for M4?
