Quality Knee Pads

Hello ASC,

Growing up, I always disliked wearing knee pads for sports/rollerblading. Mostly for the comfort factor. However; at the last game I played I managed to bang up both knees bad enough to reconsider my choice.

What are the best knee pads you've used? Do they stay in place? Do they chafe?

I've also seen those pants with built in knee pads. Are they worth while?

Lookin' forward to your input.

Crye Precision makes the once with the built in knee pads.

I own/have owned replica Crye style pants from Allwin, TMC and Emerson. Allwin and Emerson are great (TMC is crap) knee pads stay in place, are really comfortable and when i take a knee they are always where they are supposed to be. The biggest benefit i find are that they don't cut into your leg like regular knee pads do. (Have worn them for about 1-2 years at multiple games.)

Cheers.

Where did you acquire your pants?

Arc’teryx Military Knee Caps seem to be the talk of the town on the high end product scale. 60$ CAD

http://www.dstactical.com/product_in...oducts_id=1330

Several knock offs are floating around at airsoft-club and a few other sites which probably do the same exact thing.

.
These seem pretty decent, and I like their slogan "Far less expensive than reconstrutive surgery."

I also found an Ontario retailer:

Super comfortable knee pads. Without them I would blew up 1 knee. (hidden brick under a coat of dirt when I jumped). Even if it's not a hard shell, it does the job.

Got them from DS tactical.

I wear the cheap ones

and at first they bother me, but then I get used to them. I dont have an issue with them falling down personally.

I imagine the built in pants ones are more comfortable, but I wonder about how well they work.

I guess for normal use they rock, but I like to crawl alot. Id hate to spend all that money on pants and then have to resort back to my knee pads

Best: Crye or similar (Drifire, Patagonia, etc) built-in solution. Comfy, hard shell with padding (so even if there's a rock/stick/whatever it won't go thru simple foam). They won't fall down, they don't cut blood flow, and they give you over 9000 operator points.

1st runner up: Repro Crye. Same as above, but foam is generally less comfy and shell less flexible. Much more affordable, though. There's also the UR-Tactical that is an higher-end repro. Or... you can get repro pants with real Crye pads. Budget/quality, it might be the best option.

2nd runner up: Arc'Teryx. You sill need to tighten them to stay in place so you do feel them, but amonst they do offer the foam+hard shell combo that works wonders. They stay in place and restrict movement much less than Alta, Condor or other cheaper pads.

3rd runner up, if you want something really light and unobstrusive: Tru-spec or 5.11 inserts. They are very affordable (generally under 20, can be found around 10 if you look hard), works with most BDUs (if they don't, you can generally cut a slit in the inside of the pant where the material is doubled and cram them thru that slit). They however offer much less protection than pads with a hard shell.

4th runner up: none. All other solutions suck, if anything they'll just give you more problems.

Alta Knee Pads

http://www.skdtac.com/Alta-Superflex...-p/alt.602.htm

I have used these for over 8 years and I finally had to ziplock tie the front cover pads back on to the pad after too much wear, still comfortable and still in use today. The altalok swivel (easy on and off without velcro) allows you to wear them a little lose and still not fall down or cut off circulation (Hatch and repros suck for this).

I find the arcteryx pads to low profile and not enough padding for when I really hit the ground hard, but I am bigger than most.
