NPAS Screw looseness?

I'm currently fiddling with a RA-TECH NPAS valve in a WE 39C. I've noticed that it turns very freely - that is, I insert the reverse allen key, and the valve screw turns with very little (VERY little) resistance. I would've expected the screw would be more resistant to turning, to minimize the chance of the valve shifting more open/closed.

Is this looseness normal? Should there be something else in there to provide friction?

Thanks in advance.

Usually there is a spring that puts pressure upon the adjustable portion of the valve keeping it in place. I remember it being fairly easy to adjust back when using mine.

I would say try test firing it a bunch with a chronograph and see if there is any obvious shift in FPS from the valve moving. You could also carefully mark it to see if it is turning between test firing sessions.

Yep, its a common problem with the NPAS... back when i had one in both my WA m4 and my KSC mp7, I would adjust the fps, and a couple of shots later, the fps would have changed to another one.... :S

To fix this you could either adjust it to the fps you want, and loctite it, or put some teflon tape on the threads....

Thanks, Gunny. After pulling the NPAS, there wasn't a tension spring inside, so the teflon tape is a perfect solution.

Thanks all!

I know this is an old thread but watching all of these videos where you can adjust the valve while in the gun is kind of bullshit for me... As it sits in there loose, when you turn it to tighten it, the whole valve spins... this is really frustrating as I don't want to have to completely disassemble the gun every time to adjust it. Is there any fix for this??

Take a small Alan key or screwdriver and hold the valve in place while you adjust it with the NPAS key. That's how you do it.

This.

I also found that after a few mags, the valve gets tighter as the o-rings on the screw dry up.

I would have to take the nozzle apart to re-adjust it now.
