5x is way too much. my scope starts at 3.5x and i keep it there pretty much permanently. any further and it gets harder and harder to figure out where exactly you're pointing relative to your target when you shoulder the gun. this is especially tricky when you're in a wooded area and depth of field starts playing tricks on you.
rifle scopes are designed for distances well beyond the ranges our guns can shoot. if you want an effective airsoft shooting scope, get one that works well on low magnification and follow the same rule photographers do: the best zoom is your legs. if the dude is too small in your scope, you're too goddamn far away to shoot him anyway so try to get closer and make something of yourself.
