Upgrading ICS M4

If I were to replace most of my upper gearbox, would it be a better idea to go with the ICS MA-54/56 complete uppers, replace the piston with a polycarb, then downgrade the spring (say M100/M110) and leave it at that? Would the stock gears be fine handling that sort of setup?

You mean the upper mechbox, yes? We're talking about an ICS M4. One of the biggest features of the ICS M4 is the split mechbox and the option for you to swap out your previous upper mechbox with another upper mechbox. Currently, I am using an upgraded upper mechbox as a replacement for the previous one I had which I broke the tappet plate from. Generally, ICS M4 lower mechboxes can handle any upper mechbox you swap in, because that is one of the biggest features of the gun. Changing FPS for different environments is easy. Higher FPS for outdoor games and lower FPS for indoor games.

Personally, my new upper mechbox makes my gun shoot between 310 to 320 FPS and that is more than enough for my indoor and outdoor playing needs.

Regarding your specific question, sorry. I can't really give you an answer, because I don't know. Like I said, ask LUTNIT.

Yes, that setup will be fine.

You can even leave the 120 spring. It will make the rifle at 380-390 fps. Perfect for outdoors.

If not, you can downgrade the spring quite easy. Just don't trip the little screws on top of the mechbox. They are a pain to get replacements.

Okay, I have decided what I am going to do. Get the new ICS upper, and replace the piston, throw in a tightbore and downgrade the spring from an M120. That is just too hot for the type of player I am. Thanks for your help!

I got the M-54 upper, a MA 6.03mm tighbore and a Mad Bull M110 Spring in my ICS-47. It's shoots straight, far and it's been chronoed at 365-375 fps with .20g bb's. I found the alum piston in the M-54 package to be kinda cheap though...I should receive my Modify High Speed Ultra Piston soon. I'll post you impressions if you're interested.

ICS m4... ahhhh...

Here's my story with ICS.

I started out airsoft with an ICS m4! It's a pretty neat gun to be honest, but I wanted more... Both outdoor and indoor... I first bought a upper receiver from Mech, then bought a long RIS, outer barrel, and a tightbore. Now here's what happen. The RIS came in first, found out the treating didn't fit, so returned it to the person I bought it from, he was happy to take it back. After, the upper gearbox came in, I put it all together nice and neat. Charged my 8.4 battery. Then went down to the basement to "test" fire it. First semi shot sounded great! Then two quick shot which worked. Then full auto went something like "pop, pop, rummmmmmmmmmmmmmm". The gun stop firing, but the motor is still spining. Turns out I stripped 2 of the 3 gear in the gearbox. The one connecting to the moter is strip clean, no teeth left. The big flat one is missing 2 tooth. I reread the upper gearbox and it says "400fps". So then I bought new gears, fixed the gun, sold the upper, and sold the what was left of my gun.

Long story short, I'd recommend upgrading the gears before placing a high spring in. Not sure if this happen to anyone, but it was a money kit... My goal was to make it so one upper is for outdoor, once for indoor. Two different length of barrels for better grouping and accuracy. but in the end, I wasted over $300 dollar trying to pimp out my gun...

So I would strongly recommend sticking to the stock gun as much as possible.

But now I'm feeling ICS again, and bought myself a new ICS m16. Now I'm just waiting for it to arrive.

If you have the clear crap, that is all normal things.

A metal ICS M4 is a lot more reliable. If you want to upgrade the gun, the gears are the first thing to go in any gun (Ok, maybe except VFC). That is normal.

The plastic bodied ones have issues with the molding and fitment of the plastic receivers. Metal ones don't flex (obviously).

So I just recently got my hands on a full metal ICS m4 and I'm looking to replace the plastic orange flash hider. I'm noticing that the flash hider is glued on, I wanted to know if there is an easy way of removing the flash hider without damaging anything else. I really don't care about the orange flash hider and if I have to remove it in parts then thats what I'm gonna do, I'm just wondering if anyone found an easier way that doesn't leave marks.

From what ive read its as simple as either A : remove the battery and then run ONLY THE FLASH HIDER under hot water or B: same as before only dip the flash hider in a bowl of warm/hot water which loosens the glue then you yank it off.

i need help on ICS batter, i got a full metal ICS M4 RIS but the gun doesnt have a battery connector on the stock, do i need an ICS special battery for it? can anyone help me? please help me out tyvm.

i got it from plasticsoldierairsoft.ca, i e-mailed them about it, but i showed the gun to XT personels they said it needs a special batt is that right?
