I don't think I have ever actually seen someone use one though. A good GGB pistol will get you through until you can make it back to the staging area to grab your backup.

Ill all seriousness though, unnecessary weight isn't good idea. First game I came to I was so stupidly over-dressed I could barely move. By the end I had taken almost all of my gear off for the added mobility.

EDIT: I did see a sniper with an MP5K on a single point sling, that seemed like a good idea to me, but other then that I wouldn't bother.
I don't mean for if you run out of ammo, I just mean a different tool for a different job.

That is pretty sweet.

I wonder, have any of you ever used a cartridge setup like this

Or even the pump action ones that shoot like 6 bb's at once?

I ask to see if they are any good for reliability, over a single shot one that is.

Yeah, I was referring more to random malfunctions.

Also, don't get caught up in the real world differences of weapons platforms.

You can upgrade an MP5 to give better range and accuracy then a full length M16.

I understand what your saying, but it really comes down to personal preference. Does the extra weight and bulkiness bother you? If not, go for it! Having an extra there, just in case, sure wouldn't be a bad thing.

@theguy, fair enough, I know that the guns don't exactly act like the real steel, but wouldn't a pump with a 6 bb spray be better in a close up encounter than an mp5?

not necessarily, the mp5 can keep shooting if he misses while you will have pump the shotty again if you miss.

also most airsoft shotguns in airsoft only shoot 1 or 3 pellets unless they actually are a gas shotgun but then you have to pick up the shells after shooting...

Would this be reliable, mainly, will it jam, does anyone know if the gas system is of good quality? Link

Edit: @skalnok, gottcha, the linked one appears to be a 5 shot, and it looks like you just fill up a chamber of some sort, with bb's. so nothing to pick up after.

In the perfect scenario, I guess.

In close ranger situations, I usually draw my pistol. So much more mobile then a full length rifle.

But, what it really comes down to is if you can take the extra weight unencumbered, and your play style.

I'm not a big guy, and I could probably stand to go to the gym more, so for me adding extra gear doesn't work.

It might for you though.

In my opinion, it comes down to what you want. Airsoft is supposed to be fun. I want to buy an M203 grenade launcher.

Are they that useful? Probably not.
Will it add a bunch of extra weigh? Heck yes, especially when you include a dozen shells.

But I'm probably going to buy one anyways, because I want one, and it makes me feel like a bad-ass!

carrying 2 longs isn't really practical, but you can have them both at the respawn and switch to the shottie when you're tired of carrying the AEG

Im not completely sure if I can do the extra weight for a long game (milsim), but I would definitely give it a try just to see. The second long barrel (jimski) I should be able to just put it in a back pouch of some sort, which would keep it out of the way, as for use, it would just be for those close up encounters when I don't expect to have alot of time to react.

And he often has Betsy or an mp7 with those 6 pistols.

Most I've done was primary and 4 pistols but with only a few spare mags total.

G3, MP5A5, Glock. Good to have something more compact for tight spaces, and if I were worried about weight I'd carry something smaller than a full-length G3 to begin with.

I wish I had the adapter to attach rails to rails, I would have a G3 on that thing.
