Gear Boxes Being Detained?

I am completely surprised, for a few reasons.

1) Out of all of the things I have imported into Canada for airsoft. Nothing had been held up until this day.

2) The thing they have held, in my opinion should be the last thing that ever is.

Today I got a notice about the item

-Gear box

Is being detained for the following reasons.

To Determine Admissibility.

It has no motor attached to it, it was declared as an accessory, and is the only piece of the rifle that isn't a replica to anything. literally you can place it in a clear body air soft gun and it's no different.

So I am stumped that this gear box I order is held.. but the "replica" or "replacement part" stock from Evike wasn't detained and at least had a phone call to describe what the item is, and for.

With that, I will call them tomorrow if not Monday to sort out this mess.

Still seems like a joke to me about this, last time i checked.. i didn't need a firearms license to import a clutch or transmission for my car from California, let alone a model train engine, or drill press.

Was it listed as a "firearm part" or "airsoft parts"? The way it was declared could be the reason why it was flagged.

Is the gearbox empty?

When I tried to personally bring a complete gearbox (no motor) across the border, the CBSA agent asked me if it was a core part of the airsoft gun... I answered yes. I guess it's true that, even though, on its own it does not function, it does play a major role in determining the fps of an airsoft gun.

Now, before everyone gets all mad at me... Yes, I know the same thing can be said about just about every other airsoft part (barrel, bucking, body, etc), but you can understand how any doubt will be dealt with on the side of caution. Worse yet, even IF the gearbox has gears, piston, springs, cylinder, etc., they would have no real practical way of testing it.

If what they've held are the shells... well, then I'm just as confused as you are.

I had a V2 that sat in Customs for around two weeks. In their defense, they do somewhat look like a gun(trigger, nozzle at the end, etc). They'll release it, it just takes them a while to figure out what it is.

Same thing happened to my V6 Gearbox which looks even less like a gun

Except they sent it to me pretty damaged because CBSA didn't re-pack it well, they stuck it in a plastic bag and just taped all over it, things got banged up and cracked/dented/bent. (I think they lost/threw out the box/original packing)

*** Only good news was I only ordered the V6 gearbox for spare internal parts, not for the shell or trigger assembly. ***

Its absolutely discgusting how the CBSA can destroy our shipments coming into the country for "inspection" purposes, and have no oversight or recourse for us to recover our damages, Ive seen it happen so many times, and its infuriating to me, like, you people are being paid to do a job, show some fucking respect to the products that you handle... the latest case they snapped the stock of my buddies SVDS...incompetent assholes...

I strongly agree with you. A friend of mine is going through their hiring process so I am aware of how stringint it is, but it seems like once they get hired they can do what ever the hell they want. Watching the show "Border Security" not a single one of the guys on that show looks over 30!! So either their putting the rookies in the postal inspection station or their putting the old guys about to retire their, and neither of them clearly give a fuck.

I once had an empty gearbox shell (V2) being hold by custom for 2 weeks to inspect it.
The overall shape do somehow looks like a gun, but so does a hair dryer...

they opened and inspected my CA p90 gearbox SHELL. They repacked it very poorly and it must have been dropped cause shit was bent on the motor cage.

It's almost like they purposefully damage questionable shit so if they fuck up and let something slip through that they inspected, they make sure it can't be used or something.

I'm curious, can you file a damage claim with CBSA if your item was damaged during the course of inspection?

you can't prove that it was.

They'll probably tell you to file it with the shipping carrier which is probably why they don't care about repacking it very well.

Well that's a shitty deal... CBSA definitely needs more oversight.

CBSA is not an agency to provide service to the population. What they do is block, impose and restrict, confiscate and destroy. They have a duty to be polite on the phone and that's it.
They probably have a lot of decent people in their ranks; however the only one I knew is a semi-retard who campaigned to allow them to carry pistols and get a bullet vest, and takes pictures of himself with his dirty fingers on the Stanley Cup in transit.Yay.

I've seen guns that cbsa broke during inspection... Jammed while testing, attempted to clear the jam by holding the trigger down, $600 gun arrives with a stripped piston.
