Battery/Charger Problem
Hi there, not sure if this is the right section for this but here it goes anyway.
I'm using a 8.4V 1100mAh Ni-MH battery in my M4 and my battery ran out of juice so I went to charge it with my Universal Smart charger. However the problem is that the charger thinks the battery is still charged and will only use trickle charging. Is this normal? Is my charger wonky? I tried searching for the answer but came up with nothing... please help ![]() |

Some chargers are not capable of charging Ni-mh batteries. Yours may be one of them.

If you have any more info (brand name & model #), that would be helpful too. Is yours the blue one with a tri-color L.E.D. for display and 2 current selections (0.9 and 1.8 i think)?

It's not blue it's black and it has the 0.9 and 1.8 selection with a Red and Green LED... (Green means charged and Red means charging)

It's probably the same manufacturer. I've touched up solder joints in a couple of them having some issues, and they seemed to work after. From what I remember, they could do both battery types, so you should contact the retailer you bought it from and see if they will do anything for you. If you know your way around electronics, they're very simple designs and you could check it out yourself. If you're not into that, send it to your retailer and he should be able to do something for you.

I did some more experimenting with my charger, the model I have has a fuse to prevent the battery from being overloaded. However I took out the fuse and noticed it was fried. So I throw in one of the replacement fuses that came with the charger and instantly the fuse blew again ( the charger wasn't plugged in just the battery. So either it's the wrong kind of fuse or something is really messed up with the whole setup.
