Motorola GP68 Knock-Off?

I've been looking at those UHF GP68 Motorolas for a while now, and always I had the same question coming back :

On a few reputable (large) retailer's website, I've seen those handsets going for over 300$, while on ebay, I see the same thing (I think) for roughly 100$.

Is ebay plagued with counterfeit GP68 (another hint to me is that those 100$ GP68's are all coming from Hong-Kong)? Or the larger companies are simply overpricing their stuff?

Thanks.

At least one company in HK bought massive amounts of GP68s from certain UK police forces when they went digital. The company striped them down and put together a smaller (still loads) number of practically new condition handsets out of the best parts, these are the GP68s on ebay. I've bought 2, they've been top notch.

Thanks for the info. Time for me to get a GP68 then!

If I recall correctly, to be able to play with the FRS/GMRS guys, I need a UHF in the 430-470MHz range, right?

Yep, that I know, but the GP68 is available in two UHF band ranges, 400-433MHz and 430-470MHz.

My wild guess that I need 430-470MHz!?!

I was advised by Motorola that the GP68 is no longer available. The 4 watt models (RDX line) run in excess of $300CAD.

If you can snag one under $100, grab it while you can
